It all started about 60 years ago, when John Tomlin dived for the first time and found himself a true passion. At the time, he bought the equipment, but had to go to the United States as there were no diving schools yet in Quebec. After several hours of training with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) organization, he became one of the first master scuba instructors in Canada.
When he returned , he trained hundreds of enthusiasts. He became known by industries, mines and government services by performing various underwater works. He then opened his dive shop. His work had also led him to perform searches after drowning incidents, for which he volunteered.
Later, Lise Desbiens, his spouse at the time, joined him. She was an instructor for the National Association of Underwater Instructors as well as the Fédération Québécoise des Activités Subaquatiques (FQAS).It is now David Tomlin, the owner, who takes over the teaching with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and teaches several courses.
For nearly 50 years, John Tomlin’s life was devoted to scuba diving. Today, Les Entreprises Sous-Marines Tomlin is showing continued growth in the field of scuba diving in Quebec.
After John Tomlin passed away in 2010, his son David took the helm of the company. Fortunately, he can count on the valuable co-operation of Tracey Brady, his significant other. It is worth noting that this great adventure has not always been easy. Since becoming the owner of the family business, David has been working hard, putting all his energy into offering cutting-edge products and maintaining excellent services, aspects which have made the company’s reputation for all those years. A third generation of Tomlin will surely take over in the future, but we will have to wait a few years as Jake, David and Tracey’s son, was born on February 3, 2017.
